Services and Social Support for Breast Cancer

Who We Are

The SASS for Breast Cancer program began in April of 2006.  SASS is funded through the Columbus Affiliate of Komen for the Cure  with additional support from the Public Health Partnership of Licking County and the Licking County Health Department.  SASS for Breast Cancer is unique in Licking County in serving breast cancer survivors.

Currently, there are 80 survivors enrolled in SASS receiving a variety of services. 

 In 2007, we are continuing to grow by sponsoring groups participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and also the annual fundraiser THINK PINK 2007, to be held October 1st at the Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark.   The program also sponsored quarterly mobile mammography units for free or low cost screenings.

About Breast Cancer

An estimated 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States during 2007. An estimated 40,460 women will die from breast cancer. It is estimated that 2,030 men will be diagnosed and 450 men will die of breast cancer during 2007. In addition to invasive breast cancer, 62,030 new cases of in situ breast cancer are expected to occur among women in 2007. Of these, approximately 85 percent will be ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

 Breast Cancer in Licking County

Each year an average of 98 Licking County residents are diagnosed with breast cancer.

In the same year, 26 Licking County residents will die as a result of breast cancer.
