Community Supported Agriculture

Wouldn’t it be great to have access to fresh food that was grown by people in your community and not in a factory 1,000 miles away? The fundamental idea of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is not new. Farmers sold directly to the consumer long before industrial agriculture took over. Essentially, as a member of a CSA you become a “share-holder” of the farm by purchasing a share (or half-share) directly from the farmer. In return, you receive a predetermined amount of produce (or other items such as eggs, maple syrup, honey, meat, grains, flowers, etc.) each week during the growing season. Baskets can be picked up straight from the farm or delivered to your home or local farmers market. Many of us do not have the time or resources to grow the amount or variety of food that a CSA can provide. These farmers are your neighbors and care about the food they produce and its impact on your health and the earth. Some CSA’s even require volunteer hours in addition to the payment. This is a great way to connect with the food you eat. Many children nowadays think food comes from the grocery store. There is no longer a connection to farms, animals and the earth. There is nothing more rewarding than being a part of the food you eat. We will be uploading more detailed information about each CSA in Licking County to the WALC website (www.lcwalc.org) by mid-April. Until then, please use the contact information below if you have interest in a particular CSA. IIf you know of a CSA that is not listed please contact Kate White at kdwhite@lickingcohealth.org or 740-349-6535
